Catherine Wikholm

Biography

Millions of people around the world meditate regularly but what does science say about the impact of meditation? In 2012 Dr Catherine Wikholm was based at the Department of Experimental Psychology, Oxford University, where she conducted research investigating the psychological effects of yoga and meditation on prisoners.

The findings of this study gave rise to the subsequent book she co-authored, “The Buddha Pill: Can Meditation Change You?”, which gained considerable international media attention after its publication in 2015, and a second edition was published in 2019. The book communicates what scientific research tells about the effectiveness of a meditation practice as well as darker side effects rarely discussed in the popular media.
